OCTOBER’S BOOK 📚 : WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE
- SHIRLEY JACKSON
Books & Beers! Literature & Libations! Alcohol & Alliterations! We are here to provide it all with Teddy’s Book Club, meeting on the second Sunday of each month at 6:30 pm. Amanda will be hosting, and we’ll discuss the monthly selections and choose what we’d like to read for the upcoming month. We hope you’ll join us - but even if you can’t, please still get the book and talk to Amanda about it! Or - even better - strike up a conversation with someone else who is also reading it this month.
Please support your local bookstores! We are part of Changing Hand’s featured book clubs - which means a discount for you: 10% off paperbacks, 20% off hardcovers; in-store and online. Just mention us! Online, you’ll mention us in the ‘comments’ section, and the discount will be manually applied.
This one’s a classic Gothic tale from a master of horror. Apparently the opening paragraph is much-lauded as one of the very best, and so here it is to entice you: “My name is Mary Katherine Blackwood. I am eighteen years old, and I live with my sister Constance. I have often thought that with any luck at all I could have been born a werewolf, because the two middle fingers on both my hands are the same length, but I have had to be content with what I had. I dislike washing myself, and dogs, and noise. I like my sister Constance, and Richard Plantagenet, and Amanita phalloides, the death- cup mushroom. Everyone else in my family is dead.”
